Good to know
- A medium onion (110 g) has about 44 calories and a large one (150 g) about 60. Onions add flavor to a dish for very few calories.
- Frying onions doesn’t add calories by itself, but the oil or butter they cook in does. Log that fat separately.
- Boiled onion has 44 calories per 100 g against 40 raw, because some water cooks out. If you weigh onion after cooking, use a cooked entry.
- A tablespoon of chopped onion (10 g) has about 4 calories. Scallions (spring onions) have 32 calories per 100 g, so a chopped tablespoon (6 g) is about 2.
