Good to know
- A clove of garlic (3 g) has about 4 calories, so the garlic in most recipes barely changes the total.
- Garlic looks calorie-dense by weight (149 calories per 100 g), but it is used in such small amounts that nobody eats 100 g.
- Garlic powder is dried garlic, so it is denser: a teaspoon (3.1 g) has about 10 calories, roughly the same as 2 fresh cloves.
- Roasting garlic doesn’t add calories, but garlic roasted in oil, garlic butter, and garlic bread carry the calories of the fat. Count that fat on its own line.
