Good to know
- A tablespoon of soy sauce (16 g) has about 8 calories but about 878 mg of sodium.
- Reduced-sodium soy sauce is a separate product with a similar calorie count. Check its label.
- In a stir-fry for two, 2 tablespoons add about 17 calories and 1,757 mg of sodium, more than half of the 2,300 mg Daily Value used on US nutrition labels.
- Tamari, traditionally made with little or no wheat, has 60 calories per 100 g in USDA’s data. If you avoid gluten, check the label: some tamari contains wheat.
